Language and Mental Illness – From Our Perspective

Posted on May 28, 2022July 10, 2022 admin

I’d put a good bet on the fact that most people have heard someone say “I’m so OCD about it”, “I had a serious panic attack”, “it gave me PTSD” or even “I nearly had a breakdown”, and not thought anything about it. … Continue readingLanguage and Mental Illness – From Our Perspective

The Uninvited Ghosts : Realising When Depression Has Arrived

Posted on February 1, 2022 admin

How long had he been sat there, with his empty and emotionless eyes? Quiet, but with a slowly consuming presence. He must have crept inside in complete silence and sat, enjoying being undetected thanks to the busy and distracted period of my life. … Continue readingThe Uninvited Ghosts : Realising When Depression Has Arrived

@_Kax_x It’s also cruel and inappropriate to respond to someone’s pain with comments such as “did you forget to take your meds?”.

Medication, if any, as not all people with MI take medication, is not designed to supress whatever emotions of mine that you might find unpleasant.

Psych meds aren't a cure all. You can definitely relapse while being compliant with meds and treatment. Please don't assume that someone must have not taken their medication when they show signs of or are in the grips of a relapse. It's ignorant and unhelpful.

@BipolarClubDx I feel this on many levels. I struggle with the idea that existing is enough. My mental illness has made me feel broken bc I produce less than I could before my hypomania became a mixed episode, and then followed by recurring bouts of depression. These reminders are key to coping

@BipolarClubDx This is one of my biggest struggles. I was always told it was lazy to just sit around, so now I feel like I’m bad if I don’t do something productive with my day. There shouldn’t be guilt when protecting your mental health.
